Hone-All Precision's positive response to motorsport
Exhibiting regularly at Autosport Engineering has paid dividends for Hone-All Precision Limited by introducing new customers to the Dunstable-based sub-contractor’s specialist skills in deep hole drilling, boring and honing. It is also an ideal opportunity, says Andrea Rodney, Director, to focus attention on the ISO 9001:2000-accredited company’s single source precision machining capability and its co-ordinated response to the pressures that motorsport imposes on suppliers.
“Our 10,000 sq. ft. main factory is now equipped with a mid-range (18 mm to 100 mm drilling from solid and 2 m length capacity) Boehringer VDF deep hole borer that has relieved the pressure on our larger 3 m length capacity Boehringer VDF machine and smaller 1.5 m length capacity Nagel deep hole borer. The new machine is ideally suited to the machining of transmission components such as input or main shafts, and this additional capacity will ensure that Hone-All maintains its position as a key provider of machining expertise to the motorsport industry.”
Installation of a third deep hole borer has prompted a re-organisation of the main machine shop, with a number of smaller manual and automated machine tools transferred to a nearby satellite unit that specialises in one-offs and small batch work. “We have taken this opportunity to review the entire manufacturing process here at Hone-All,” says Andrea Rodney, “and we are confident that, in combination with a successful recruitment policy and a comprehensive training programme, we are fully equipped to deliver close tolerance components on time and at a very competitive price.”
Hone-All Precision’s expertise extends to machining a wide range of motorsport components from anti-roll bars to steering column and transmission elements in a wide range of materials, including titanium, aluminium and various alloy steels. “Our motorsport customers include Formula One teams and rally sport teams but at the other end of the spectrum we also cater for classic car enthusiasts needing one-off replacement parts,” says Andrea Rodney. “We like the variety of work and the challenge that motorsport presents, and the fact that it is such a demanding sector benefits other Hone-All customers, because we understand the need for both a fast response and a willingness to embrace change.”

Stringent quality procedures emphasise Hone-All Precision’s determination to remain a key supplier of machined motorsport components.
